Mr. Fuji (মিঃ ফুজি) was an American professional wrestler and manager best known for his work in the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF, later WWE). Recognized for his cunning in-ring tactics and villainous persona, he earned the nickname The Devious One.
Biography
Fuji began his wrestling career in 1962 in his native Hawaii under the name Mr. Fujiwara. He quickly made an impact, winning the NWA Hawaii Tag Team Championship in 1966 alongside King Curtis Iaukea. Shortening his name to Mr. Fuji, he wrestled in various territories, including NWA Pacific Northwest Wrestling, where he won multiple championships. In 1972, he debuted in the WWWF, forming a dominant tag team with Professor Toru Tanaka under the management of the Grand Wizard. Known for his strategic use of "salt-throwing" to blind opponents, Fuji and Tanaka became top contenders, capturing the WWWF World Tag Team Championship from Sonny King and Chief Jay Strongbow. They held the titles for nearly a year, making them one of the longest-reigning champions in the title’s history. Beyond his wrestling career, Fuji became a legendary manager in the 1980s and 1990s, guiding superstars like Don Muraco, Yokozuna, and others to championship success. His influence in wrestling lasted decades, and in 2007, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Mr. Fuji passed away on August 28, 2016, leaving behind a legacy as one of wrestling’s greatest heels and most devious managers.
