He has been nominated six consecutive times by the Awami Party of Bangladesh and has been elected as a Member of Parliament for 4 consecutive times in Chittagong 6 Raujan Constituency. After being elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2008 elections, he was elected as the President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and in 2014 as the President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In 2018, he was re-elected as a member of this committee.
