Debapriya Bhattacharya (ডঃ দেবপ্রিয় ভট্টাচার্য)  is an economist and public policy analyst from Bangladesh. He was the first executive director of Centre for Policy Dialogue in Dhaka. He also worked as a senior research fellow at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies.

Biography

Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya is a macro-economist and public policy analyst. Currently, he is a
Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) in Dhaka, where he also served as the first Executive Director. He is also a member of the CPD Board of Trustees.

Dr Debapriya is a member of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a
subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). He is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD), Washington DC, and the Convenor of Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh – a platform of more than 150 NGOs and private sector bodies, seeking to contribute to the delivery of the SDGs at the country level.

He currently chairs two global networks, viz. Southern Voice on Post-MDG International Development Goals – a network of 49 thinks tanks from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, serving as an open platform to stimulate and disseminate high-quality evidence-based analyses for discussions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and related issues; and LDC IV Monitor – a partnership of seven think tanks and international organizations, seeking to contribute to effective implementation of commitments envisaged under the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for LDCs.

Dr Debapriya is one of the leading public faces of Bangladesh’s civil society. He regularly features in national and international electronic and print media. He is a member of a number of international networks on trade, investment, and finance and sits in the editorial board of reputed journals.

He has authored and edited a number of books including Bangladesh’s Graduation from the Least Developed Countries Group – Pitfalls and Promises (2018) and Southern Perspectives on the Post-2015 International Development Agenda (2016), both published by Routledge. His upcoming books include COVID-19 and Bangladesh: Inclusion, Disaggregation and Transition (Routledge) and Delivering SDGs in South Asia in Post-pandemic Context: Issues and Challenges (Springer).
