Biography
Haring’s artistic career took off with spontaneous chalk drawings in New York subways, featuring stylized figures, radiant babies, barking dogs, and other iconic motifs. As his popularity grew, he transitioned to large-scale murals, gallery exhibitions, and public commissions, creating over 50 public artworks worldwide. In 1986, he opened the Pop Shop, a retail space that sold his artwork in an accessible form, reinforcing his belief that art should be for everyone. A passionate activist, Haring used his art to advocate for safe sex, anti-drug campaigns, and children's education. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, he established the Keith Haring Foundation to support AIDS organizations and children’s programs.
