Career Beginnings  

Hutton spent several years singing in big bands, developing her vocal skills and stage presence. In 1941, she replaced Jo Stafford as the lead female vocalist of The Pied Pipers, a popular vocal group that frequently collaborated with Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra. With The Pied Pipers, Hutton recorded several hit songs, including "Dream," which became one of their most famous recordings.  

Solo Career and Success  

In 1950, Hutton left The Pied Pipers to pursue a solo career. She signed with Capitol Records, where she gained recognition for her smooth and warm voice. One of her most successful songs was "Say You're Mine Again," which became a No. 1 hit in 1953. During this time, she frequently performed with arranger and pianist Axel Stordahl, whom she later married. Hutton recorded several albums, including Afterglow and Soft Lights and Sweet Music, which showcased her talent in romantic ballads and pop standards.  

Later Career in Film and Television  

Although Hutton was primarily known for her music, she made television appearances and continued performing throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. However, after the death of her husband Axel Stordahl in 1963, she gradually withdrew from the entertainment industry.  

Personal Life and Death  

June Hutton passed away on May 2, 1973, in Encino, California, at the age of 53.
