ASHK Sadeq (আশক সাদেক) bureaucrat, politician. His full name is Abu Sharaf Hijbul Kader Sadeq. He was born on 30 April 1934 in the village Barenga in Keshavpur thana of Jessore district. His father Yahya Sadeq was the joint commissioner of the Government of Bengal. H.K Sadeq passed the Matriculation examination in 1949, Intermediate in 1951, BA (Hons) in Economics in 1954, and MA in 1955. He took training in the Cambridge University of U.K and at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics. In 1956 he joined the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP)

Biography

ASHK Sadeq served as the sub-divisional officer in Nilphamari and Narayanganj from 1959 to 1961. In 1966-67 he worked as the deputy commissioner, Comilla and in 1969-70 worked as secretary to the Governor of East Pakistan. He was the secretary to the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, tajuddin Ahmad. In 1972 he was the chief secretary to the President. In his service career, he worked as the Director of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), secretary of the Ministry of Education, secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and secretary of the Ministry of Defence. He performed the responsibility of an administrative expert and regional industrial advisor in the UNIDOR of the United Nations in Kuala Lumpur (1974-1978) and in Bangkok (1985-1990). He voluntarily retired from service in 1988.

After retirement from service, he joined politics. In 1996 he was elected a member of the Jatiya Sangsad as a candidate of Awami League from Jessore-6 (Keshavpur) constituency. He was included in the cabinet of sheikh Hasina in charge of the Ministry of Education, Primary and Mass Education, and Science and Technology. He was elected a member of the Eighth Jatiya Sangsad in 2001. He was a member of the standing committee on the government accounts and the Ministry of Defence in the Jatiya Sangsad. He died on 9 September 2007.
