Ainun Nishat (আইনুন নিশাত) is a water resource and climate change specialist from Bangladesh. As of 2017, he is serving as a professor emeritus of BRAC University. He represented Bangladesh at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2009, among other international climate-related conferences.

Biography

Dr. Ainun Nishat is an Emeritus Professor at BRAC University and working as an adviser at the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER). He represented Bangladesh in numerous national and international bodies, including the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (CoP), the Indo-Bangladesh Joint River Commission, etc. Dr. Nishat has More than 40 years of academic and capacity development experience in the field of conservation of the environment, conducting training on climate change aspects, and regulatory reform; Skilled in communicating with different stakeholders from different cultural, professional, and social backgrounds (ministries, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, SMEs, and large businesses) in different languages (English, Bengali); Organisational skills and Competencies Strong capacity for interdisciplinary and analytical thinking acquired in doctoral research and studies of civil engineering, water resource, and climate change in different cultural settings. As a Chair of the Advisory Group, he will ensure the role amp; responsibilities of all other technical advisors.

Dr. Nishat completed his B.Sc and M.Sc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K. He also held several teaching posts in BUET and was also the Vice Chancellor of BRAC University. He is one of the founding members of the ERG Governing body.

He is a key member of the Climate Change Negotiation Team for Bangladesh. He was a key member of experts who prepared the National Adaptation Program of Action (NAPA-2005), Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (BCCSAP 2008 and 2009), and most recently National Adaptation Plan (NAP-2022). He has been closely involved in the preparation of the number of strategies and action plans including Bangladesh National Conservation Strategy and National Environment Management Action Plan.
